Cliff of  Baume rousse

Our mainly Mediterranean climate with over 300 sunny days a year allow you to climb in best conditions all year round in our region.  

Many very well-known climbing sites are found here, Orpierre which is the Mecca but also Sisteron, Chateauneuf de Chabre, and Ventavon.

Facing south, only 600 m above sea level.

Baume Rousse enjoys the best sun orientation of the Buëch valley ; therefore pleasant winter and off season. It offers nice and various stiff overhanging walls. Grade : 5c to 7c,

1 km from the village along the road of the Méouge canyon. 

Park to the right, and follow the marked path that leads within 10 minutes to the foot of the climbing route.

"Cliff of Pierre impie et de l’Essaillon "

Access : On the town square, follow the RD 948 towards Sisteron, after 2.7 km, turn right and follow the signs Châtillon.
It takes about 10 minutes to reach the car park.
This cliff is characterized by a great spur (100m) on the southern side, about 15m long with a big technical rock climb offering  slabs and cracks on solid compact rock.

 Cliff of Essaillon :

This smaller rocky outcrop is  North / East oriented and cooler. The difficult routes are shorter than in the south face.
Grade : 5 to 7C for the two cliffs.


“ Facing Baume rousse “


Access : in Antonaves, pass the Town Hall following the signs and the dirt trail towards the car park for 600 meters. It takes about 10 minutes.
This south-east facing cliff allows climbing all year round except on the hottest days. 
Routes and difficulties are varied with interesting rock and  in a location surrounded by a beautiful setting.

Grade :5 to 7B

Cliff Pass Saint Ange



" Pass Saint Ange "


Access : In Barret sur Méouge follow the road to Barret-le-Haut, 200 m before the hamlet, turn left towards the Crousette pass, after 2 km you’ll reach the pass. Leave your car, take the GR towards the Saint Angel pass and walk for about 1 hour. 

Perched on the crest of the Chabre Mountain, the small cliff of Saint-Angel , facing full south, offers in spring and fall, an ideal climb for beginners. The lying slabs allow climbing with an excellent grip on a gray and compact rock. From the ridge, is a great view over the valleys of Orpierre, the Méouge and the Buëch Rivers.

Grade varying between 4 and 5.



"Chante Duc” 

Access : In the hamlet of Damias, leave your car in the visitor parking and follow the signs.
It takes about 40 minutes to reach the site. 
Cliff facing full south over 1,200 m altitude. Pleasant climbing in spring, in the fall and during sunny winter days. The scenery and view over the meadows of the Mare Montain and the ridge of Ane already justifies the trip for spending a climbing day in a 100% natural environment. 
On these steep walls and slightly overhanging with a variety of different rock types, the climbing is technical.
The grade of these thirty different routes varies from 5 to 7b. 


A beautiful site overlooking the valley of the Durance River with a south-west oriented sunny cliff. (45 minutes to 1 hour walk to reach it). Passed Laragne, take the D942 towards Ventavon, don’t go at the fork to the village on your right but further go to the left towards the hamlet of Le Villard. At the car park  follow the trail signs up to the cliff.

The routes are well equipped.
Grade between 6a and 7b (quotations 5c to 8b).



Largest climbing site of the Buëch region with over 500 equipped routes for every level (beginners, sport climbing, improving, long routes). This site offers 8 distinct cliffs, with various orientations ; the access to the routes is easy, 10 to 25min.



On the left bank of the Durance, the Rock of la Baume, is a beautiful spot with 100 equipped routes.
Grade : 4+  to 8.
